Too close
I came across this little mirror while walking my dog along a forest road. I liked the pattern made by the broken glass. Crouching down, I saw the colours of the sky and the clouds reflected in it. And as I moved, the mirrored shadows of the trees moved with me.

This photo was taken in 2018, when Primož Roglič returned from the Giro and was given a public welcome by the people of Zagorje. I originally intended to discard it, but then I was struck by its atmosphere, which makes up for its rather poor technical quality.

No Man’s Curve
Every year for several years now I have been walking the circular route from Hrastnik back to Hrastnik, taking in Jelenca, Klobuk, Kal, Mrzlica, Ostenk and Žrebljev hrib. This photo was taken in Ostenk and, since this bend in the road is exactly halfway between Hrastnik and Trbovlje, I decided to call it “No Man’s Curve”.

This photo comes from a time when virus attacks on humanity were still the stuff of science fiction. It was taken while I was cycling from Loka to Radeče with my camera over my shoulder, watching the anglers by the Sava River. When I spotted a man walking his dog, the title of the photo wrote itself. All I had to do was to stop and use my camera.

This is a studio shot of a figure of Perkmandeljc, the mining dwarf, set in his “natural” environment. The base is made from scraps of coal taken from Lakonca, in Trbovlje, and the background is an original photograph of the Terezija coal mine. The atmosphere is created using smoke from the candles.

I took this during a walk in the park. The wind was blowing, and I was waiting for it to drop for a moment. I was standing beneath the branches, trying to photograph the young green leaves. I managed to capture the leaves and the wind and the promises, holding them all in a single moment.

The procedure requires a great deal of patience, as it is essential to get the exposure just right and also to ensure that the liquid is sufficiently viscous.

Igralci Rok Prašnikar, Timon Šturbej in Tamara Avguštin so se ob cigareti in pivu sproščali po naporni vaji. V času nastanka fotografije so bili vsi še študentje in praktično neznani igralci, danes pa imajo uspešne kariere in širok krog občinstva.
Before they were famous
This photo was taken a couple of days before the premiere of a theatre production by 4th year students at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, due to take place at the Cankar Cultural and Congress Centre. The actors – Rok Prašnikar, Timon Šturbej and Tamara Avguštin – were relaxing with cigarettes and beer after a tiring rehearsal. At the time this photo was taken, they were all still students and virtually unknown. Since then, though, they have had successful acting careers and have become known to a wide audience.

I took this photo towards the end of January this year, when a friend of mine invited me to go to Črni Kal with her to photograph the viaduct in fog. It was not as foggy as I had expected, but conditions improved as dusk started to fall. This picture is the result.

Celo popoldne sem fotografiral po Planici in Tamarju in dan se je že poslavljal. Ob vrnitvi sem postal radoveden, kaj se dogaja na izviru Save Dolinke, zato sem za hip postal, se sprehodil po brvi, ki prečka vodni tok. Oblaki so bili že skoraj popolnoma osiveli in trava je dobila posebno barvo. Postavil sem stojalo s fotoaparatom, izbral nastavitve, sprožil in čakal. Čas ekspozicije je naredil svoje. Barve so izstopale, kot da bi hotele pomahati v slovo dnevu.

I had spent the afternoon taking pictures in the Planica and Tamar valleys, and the day was coming to a close. On my return I wanted to see what was happening at the spring of the Sava Dolinka. I stopped for a while and then crossed a footbridge over the river. The clouds were almost entirely grey; the grass took on a special hue. I mounted my camera on a tripod, selected the settings, pressed the shutter and waited. The exposure time did all the rest. The colours came out as if they wanted to wave goodbye to the day.

Fotografija je iz davnega leta 1975, zanjo sem se odločila, ker mi je všeč zaradi močnega čustvenega naboja in ker je posneta s klasičnim fotoaparatom na diafilm. Kaj je diafilm, večina današnjih fotografov ne ve, tako kot se nam takrat niti sanjalo ni, v kakšno udobno tehniko se bo razvila sodobna fotografija.

This photo is from 1975. I like its strong emotional charge and the fact that it was taken using a classic camera and diafilm. Few photographers today even know what a diafilm is. And similarly, we could never have imagined back then just how straightforward and convenient the photography of the future would become.

Igra v mivki je nastala v Indiji na brezmejnih plažah Kerale. Znanci, ki prebivajo tam, imajo kup otrok in njihov živ žav je cel dan okoli hiš. Fotografija je nastala slučajno, ko sem ob fotkanju sončnega zahoda opazil Ivana in Andreo, ki sta se valjala in igrala v pesku. Zaradi še kar pretirane nasprotne svetlobe sem uporabil bliskavico, ki je zelo dobro osvetlila oba otroka.
Playing in the sand
This photo was taken on one of the endless beaches of Kerala, India. My acquaintances there have many children, and their voices can be heard around the houses all day long. This photo arose quite by chance: I was trying to capture the sunset when I spotted Ivan and Andrea rolling and playing in the sand. To offset the strong backlighting I used flash, which made the two children stand out better.

I took this photo with an analogue camera during a road trip through the Balkans. The girls in the picture were spending their May Day holiday playing a fantasy game at the coast of Montenegro, with no sign of any tourists anywhere. I was reminded of my own childhood and the way I used to amuse myself just using my imagination, without any of the electronic devices or innovative toys of today.

Pri izbiri fotografije sem se odločil za klasični motiv, posnet septembra 2019, ki pa ima prav nevsakdanje barve. V kompoziciji je tudi človeška figura. Ta se, ker sem ljubitelj motivov narave, redkokdaj pojavi na mojih fotkah.
In anticipation
When selecting a photo I went for a classical motif captured in September 2019. The colours, however, are truly unusual. The composition also features a human figure. As I usually prefer motifs from nature, humans are a rare element in my images.
